What do Foot Health Practitioners do?
Foot Health Practitioners are similar to Chiropodists in their approach to Patient care. They deal with the common complaints, corns, toe nails, verrucae, hard skin. Jan will use her knowledge of lower limb biomechanics to focus on the underlying cause of a problem. So a consideration of the mechanics of the whole lower limb is fundamental to achieve an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis.
How can a Foot Health Practitioner help you?
We can do a great deal to prevent you developing a variety of problems and to keep your feet healthy. We can help you in many ways by:
- Treating corns and calluses - paring down hard skin which causes build up of pressure
- Using padding to redistribute pressure away from danger areas
- Safely trimming your toe nails
- Advising on correct footwear
- Examining your feet for signs of neuropathy and poor circulation.
- Prescribing orthoses. These are devices used to correct foot instability
New patients often say that they don't know if they need foot care or not. If you have a problem with your feet then it can build up from a simple corn or callus and alter your whole gait leading to joint and back problems. If you are in doubt then please contact the Clinic on 01273 835116 to discuss, and give yourself that peace of mind. Having pain free feet also gives you one less thing to worry about and keep you stress free as the pain of painful feet can't be avoided as we need to constantly be mobile.
What is the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?
There is no difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist. The term chiropodist has been traditionally used in the UK, whereas podiatrist is recognised and used more internationally. Increasingly, chiropodists in the UK are being referred to as podiatrists and many people in the profession refer to themselves as both.
